MBABANE:Percy Simelane, the King’s Spokesperson says,King Mswati is not a subject of Chinese President Xi Jinping and therefore,he cannot take orders from Beijing.
Responding to this Swaziland News this week and reacting to reports suggesting that,China has introduced a Bill that comes with a death targeting anyone promoting Taiwan as an independent State, the King’s Spokesperson said, the law will only apply to Chinese citizens.
“Our King is not a subject of Chinese President and may not take orders and pronouncements from Beijing.Normally, laws are enacted for citizens of the country of their origin and not for anyone, anywhere in the world.Eswatini is a Sovereign country with a political heart and soul of its own. As short as to tell, the alleged Chinese law shall not apply in Eswatini”, said the King’s Spokesperson.
But sources told this Swaziland News that,eSwatini citizens or King’s loyalists who promote and support Taiwan as a independent State but visit China for shopping or business might be arrested shortly after entering China’s territory.
“It’s true that the law is also targeting eSwatini citizens who will undermine the United Nations(UN) Resolution 2758 of 1971 by supporting the Taiwan province. The Chinese Intelligence will compile the list of those people and should they visit China either for business, shopping or just a visit, they might be arrested for breaking the law”, said the source.
The proposed law that might restrict King’s loyalists from visiting China in fear of being arrested and killed as the law comes with a death penalty, has been introduced as China intensifies moves to re-claim its Taiwan province.
This comes after King Mswati of the tiny Kingdom of eSwatini, pledged to support and maintain diplomatic relations with Taiwan, Mswati made the commitment during the recent inauguration of Taiwan President William Lai Ching-te.
