MBABANE:Nurses and other health workers engaged in a protest on Thursday, they are demanding their COVID-19 allowances.
This comes amid media reports suggesting that,Prime Minister(PM) Russell Mmiso Dlamini,the then Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of the National Disaster Management Agency(NDMA) allegedly looted R210million donated and public funds as per the report of the Auditor General(AG) Timothy Matsebula,part of the missing monies were meant to be paid to health workers as allowances.
Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo declined to comment about the matter.
Speaking to this Swaziland News,Mayibongwe Masangwane,the Secretary General(SG) of the Swaziland Democratic Nurses Union(SWANDU) said,the protest was meant to demand the COVID-19 allowances.
“The protest was meant to demand the COVID-19 allowances.Nurses received information that others who were not frontline workers received the allowances but as health workers who were fighting the COVID-19, they did not receive their allowances”, said the SWADNU Secretary General.
