MBABANE:Khulekani Nhleko,a twenty(20)year-old man is struggling to secure employment after dropping out of school as potential employers demand an Identity Document(ID).
Speaking to this Swaziland News on Friday,Nhleko alleged that he was dumped by his father Sabelo Nhleko of ka-Shoba who works at Big-Bend and since then, he has been struggling to secure an ID and a Birth Certificate.
“I dropped out of school because when I was about to do my Form five(5),an ID was a requirement.Even when I get some temporary jobs,trying to raise money so I can go back to school,most potential employers are demanding an ID, my life is just stagnant. My father dumped my mother Simangele Dlamini and myself and when we tried to do an ID and Birth Certificate with my mother,Home Affairs officials told us that we need to come with my father as my mother’s ID is written ‘non Swazi’.I don’t know anything how my mother’s ID ended-up written ‘non-Swazi’ because I’m a child but I’m now suffering.Home Affairs officials have been taking my money promising to help”, he said.
Efforts to reach the mother proved unsuccessful at the time of compiling this report.
Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo declined to comment about the matter.
Reached for comments on Friday afternoon, Sabelo Nhleko confirmed that Khulekani “is his child” but clarified that,he tried to ensure that the child gets Identification Documents(IDs) however, he was restricted by certain laws.
“He approached me with his mother asking for my ID so they can register for the Birth Certificate and ID and I don’t know what happened thereafter.The problem here is that his mother is in possession of South African documents and as a man, I don’t have the powers to register the ID or Birth Certificate for him,the law favors women to do all this.Otherwise,I’m available if they need me in the process, he is my child”, said the father when speaking to editor Zweli Martin Dlamini.
