MBABANE:Eswatini Revenue Service(ERS),the key institution that collects taxes to fund the operations of the entire Government is allegedly frustrated by the same Government as monies to fund operations are being delayed.

In an interview with this Swaziland News,a senior Manager alleged that, they have engaged Government in vain in an attempt to address the financial challenges within the revenue authority.

“What normally happens is that once we collect the taxes we remit all the monies to Government and then Government will then transfer back our operational costs including monies to pay salaries. So now,the payments are delaying and employees are systematically engaging in a go slow. We are using an overdraft to pay salaries,if you have a source with Standard Bank you can check”, said the senior Manager whose name cannot be revealed for ethical reasons.

The senior Manager further mentioned that, various departments are struggling without equipment and urged this publication to publish the story so that Government can see the seriousness of the delay.

“We might not reach our target because the employees are not motivated to work,in fact some are saying they will frustrate the operations for at least four(4) months by not reaching the target as a protest before engaging in a public protest”, said the Manager.

Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo declined to comment about the matter.

Eswatini Revenue Authority is under the Ministry of Finance and remains a key institution in the operations of entire Government by collecting taxes.
