Standard Bank Eswatini workers to go on strike on Tuesday over salary increment.

MBABANE:Jabu Shiba,the Secretary General of the Swaziland Union of Financial Institutions and Allied Workers(SUFIAW)has written a letter to Labour Commissioner Mthunzi Shabangu,informing him about an intended strike action by Standard Bank workers,the strike will commence on Tuesday.

The letter dated 19th July 2024 was copied to Mvuselelo Fakudze,the Standard Bank Chief Executive and the Executive Director of the Conciliation,Mediation and Arbitration Commission(CMAC).

“We advise that we have today issued a new strike notice against Standard Bank(Eswatini) Limited per Section 86(8) of the Industrial Relations Act 2000. The strike commences on the 23rd July 2024 and depending on the progress, it may be suspended at the Union’s discretion.When suspended,this will be in writing to the Bank and on its resumption,the Bank will receive not less than 48hours notice in that regard”, reads the letter in part.

Jabu Shiba, the SAFIAW Secretary General confirmed the strike action while efforts to reach the Standard Bank Chief Executive proved unsuccessful at the time of compiling this report.

It remains unclear if the strike action won’t affect workers from various companies who receive their salaries through Standard Bank.
