MBABANE:Mfankhona Nkambule, the editor of the Times of eSwatini-Weekend edition says, they would never be a second political unrest in the country as emaSwati love the King.
In his opinion article published on Saturday, the pro-Tinkhundla journalist said even if the country could adopt multiparty democracy, any political party aspiring to rule, will have to first endorse the Monarchy to gain support from the people.
Nkambule then warned Velaphi Mamba, the Treasurer General of the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO) to stop misleading the people about the possibility of a second(2nd) political unrest.
“The 2021 civil unrest was not predetermined. It accidentally occurred. The primary objective of the mass action was to deliver petitions to the Tinkhundla Centres, calling for the enactment of a law for the election of a Prime Minister.Presently, this is a prerogative of His Majesty the King. As a matter of fact, nobody had thought or predetermined that a civil unrest would unfold”, said the editor when warning that,an unrest cannot he planned.
The pro-Tinkhundla editor further mentioned that, the King commands respect in the country with a large political and traditional following.
“The King commands respect in the country.Politically and traditionally, he has a very large following in the country.Comrades must not deceive themselves that people now hate the institution of the monarchy. Any donor dishing out millions of Dollars to a programme centred on the idea that the institution of the monarchy is on the brink of collapse is basically sponsoring an illusion. Of course, they may be some opposing figures within it. Even then, it is still very strong and relevant to many of our people”, said the editor.
Nkambule was allegedly reacting to a Velaphi Mamba’s Visionary Perspective program poster circulated by this publication, the program articulating the next political unrest will be articulated by Mamba on Sunday(04 August 2024) at 8pm on Swaziland News Facebook page.
