LETTER TO THE EDITOR:Teaching Service Commission(TSC) refusing to employ us, education no longer a key to success in this country.

Monday, 9th September, 2024

I am writing as an unemployed Design and Technology teacher who has been without a job for more than seven years.

Writing to you Mr Zweli Dlamini is focused on seeking assistance in my plight to employment and also to expose those put in positions for not doing their jobs in employing educators in Eswatini, especially those who teach Design and Technology.

Yearly, when TSC is employing teachers, Design and Technology educators are never mentioned.

I say this because the last time my employer made any effort in contacting me was 7 years ago and has not bothered on explaining on its progress concerning my employment.

I have run from pillar to post trying to get answers at TSC but all I have received are cold shoulders, demoralizing responses and sometimes no answers at all.

I have been led to understand that the problem lies on employed teachers, head teachers and the chief inspector under Design and Technology at TSC.

I have found that there are available posts in schools and when a teacher either leaves, is transferred, resigns or dies, head teachers force teachers remaining, to take on the periods left by the educator who has left that particular school thus making it seem as if there is no position available and keeping us out of the loop. Head teachers do not report available spaces in their schools and I have been given the impression that they want us to go to their schools and bribe them for the posts.

The Chief inspector on the other hand, has on numerous occasions told my other counterparts that we must forget about being employed as government does not have money to take us in.

The Tinkhundla Government has told me from a young age that “education is the key to success”, where is my success?.

I have a daughter who is in high school and I am struggling to pay her school fees.

I have worked odd jobs for the last 7 years enduring abuse under numerous employers because of desperation. A greater percentage of youth in Eswatini is educated and my question is, what is the Tinkhundla Government spurring us to do? Who will blame me if I turn unruly and become its enemy?.

I would like answers on when I am getting employed. Thank you!!!.
