“What happened is; when the fire erupted, there was one security as the staff had gone home, gates were locked. Two(2) trucks were parked inside the premises next to containers, one bakkie and another car. Members of the public tried to assist the security guard who was visibly confused as the fire was escalating on top of the roof. We arrived around 7pm and our delay was caused by the fact that, we were using one vehicle that is not properly maintained. As the fire continued to spread, members of the public suggested that, one car must be evacuated with hands just to save it from the fire and the other superiors refused saying it was dangerous to do so. Members of the public defied the advise and took the bakkie with their hands and saved it”, said one of the senior fire officers.
