“Charged for contravening Section 60(a) of the Correctional Services Regulations of 2022 read with Section 66 of the same Act which stipulates, inter allia. The acts or omission by an offender which constitutes major correctional offense “mutiny or incitement to mutiny”. In that upon or about the 09th August 2024 and at or near the High Court of Eswatini, in Mbabane the said inmate acting jointly in the furtherance of a common purpose to mutiny or incitement to mutiny did unlawfully, internationally and wrongfully chant political slogans inside the Court, and say they would not surrender, forward ever backward never, with fists clenched or raised, they want an elected Prime Minister, there is no medication, they would not go back to Matsapha Correctional Facility or jail and by so doing contravene the said Act,” reads the charge sheet in part.

Gugulethu Dlamini, the Correctional Services Spokesperson had not responded at the time of compiling this report.

But lawyer Professor Dlamini who is representing the freedom fighters confirmed that, his clients were charged and found guilty adding that, the political activists “are consistently” assaulted in prison.

“It’s true, they were found guilty as charged and up until November, 10, they are not allowed to make calls to their relatives, their privilege of basking in the morning have also been taken away. They are not allowed visitors during this period. It is disturbing that the offences they are alleged to have committed have nothing to do with the section they are charged under”, said the lawyer.
