MBABANE:China might soon engage African countries including South Africa to assist in enforcing the new law, that seeks to arrest individuals who promote its Province-Taiwan as an independent State,sources told this Swaziland News on Tuesday.
The sources said, China has some extradition agreements with a majority of its African diplomatic allies and therefore, might consider engaging those countries to assist in enforcing the law that seeks to discourage the promotion of Taiwan as an independent State.
“This will assist in ensuring that, separatists from eSwatini for example,are isolated from visiting countries like South Africa because South Africa might be forced to enforce a warrant of arrest issued in China based on extradition agreements.If we don’t engage our diplomatic allies to assist in this, eSwatini will continue to violate the United Nations(UN) Resolution 2758 of 1971 and promote Taiwan. I am not sure how this will be done but I heard that it’s under discussion at the highest level. You will recall that,South African President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed full support for the One China Policy during the recent Forum on China-Africa Cooperation(FOCAC) and then eSwatini is supporting Taiwan”, said the source.
On another note, eSwatini Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini joined different Friends of Taiwan for a cocktail evening this week, hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of China, Taiwan in New York, the United States.
Government online platforms reported that during the event, the PM reaffirmed Eswatini’s commitment to strengthening the friendship and bilateral mutual cooperation that has existed between Taiwan and Eswatini for over 50 years.
“As the Kingdom of Eswatini, we are happy to support Taiwan as a friend, not because of the mutual benefit but because of the principle. Eswatini has enjoyed friendship with Taiwan for over 50 years now and we cannot just abandon our friends because our friendship is based on mutual respect”, said the Prime Minister.
On another note, King Mswati’s Spokesperson Percy Simelane previously told this Swaziland News that, eSwatini “is a friend to all and enemy to none” adding that, the country has a right to decide its future as a Sovereign State.
