MBABANE:Apollo Maphalala,the Minister of Housing and Urban Development has called for a collective effort to develop the country’s cities.
The Minister was speaking on Monday through his representative Mduduzi Matsebula,the Minister of Health when launching the World Habitat Day and Urban October.
Government online platforms reported that, the launch was held under the theme: "Engaging Youth to Create a Better Urban Future, which highlights the critical role of young people” in driving sustainable urban development.
“Today’s gathering is not only a reflection of our dedication to sustainable urban development but also a powerful reminder of the collective responsibility we share in shaping the future of our cities and communities.Across Eswatini, we are seeing tangible improvements in housing, urban services, and infrastructure. Local governments are working diligently to provide better public spaces, promote green initiatives, and foster youth-led projects that prioritise sustainability.The forum is intended to be a platform for dialogue and collaboration, bringing together local authorities, youth representatives, urban planners, and various stakeholders in the housing and urban development sectors. We must continue to invest in innovative housing solutions, sustainable urban practices, and the protection of green spaces,” said the Urban Development Minister.
