ITALY:King Mswati has urged United Nations(UN) Member States to speed-up the implementation of strategies that seek to address the global food insecurity.
The King addressing the World Food Forum in Rome-Italy on Monday afternoon, Government online platforms reported.
“We must not rest until every country becomes self-sufficient. I leave you with a new word calling for action now: ‘Nkwe’!.As we look at developing our food products, this will not be possible without the enabling infrastructure, such as roads, warehouses and ICT, to mention a few. These will facilitate the easy transportation of produce from the field to its intended destination.Rapid urbanisation and premature rural-to-urban migration also pose risks, including food insecurity, social instability, infrastructure threats and potential resource shortages”, said the King.
The eSwatini King said, by fostering new pathways of action, including multi-sector and agent partnerships, the WFF aims to achieve a sustainable, resilient, inclusive, and hunger-free future for all.
“However, there are no one-size-fits-all solutions.Policies have to consider local contexts, the impact of such transformations on the livelihoods of persons currently working in agriculture and the job opportunities available to them”, he said.
