BURUNDI:Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has announced the establishment of a National Mining Company when delivering his speech during the COMESA Summit held in Burundi this week.
COMESA stands for the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa,a regional economic community that was founded to, among others, promote trade and development in Africa.
The PM urged COMESA countries to prioritise in-country beneficiation and the processing of minerals,moving beyond exporting raw materials to promote economic empowerment and sustainable development adding that,the National Mining Company will act as a cornerstone for responsible partnerships and significant investment in the country’s mining sector.
The Prime Minister said, the establishment of such trade and investment policies, seeks to among others, demonstrate commitment to sustainable and community-centered mining practices within the COMESA region.
