MBABANE:Sicelo Mngomezulu, the Chairperson of the pro-democracy MultiStakeholder Forum(MSF) has clarified that, there’s no division within the Mass Democratic Movement(MDM) as all the organizations fighting for democracy under the MSF, are strongly united in pushing for a new democratic dispensation.
Speaking to this Swaziland News on Monday evening, the lawyer said, as MSF they “are not convinced that, those who participate in Tinkhundla undemocratic elections are true revolutionaries” hence their behavior and way of doing things, should not be interpreted as a division within the MDM.
“We must clarify that there is no division in the mass democratic movement as led by the Multi Stakeholder Forum representing 26 civil society organisations, amongst of which are political parties and trade unions. Our understanding of the MDM is that it comprises of civil society formations and Swati citizens who reject and do no participate or cooperate with all of Mswati\'s instruments of oppression of Emaswati such as his Tinkhundla undemocratic elections, his parliament and Sibaya, etc. All those progressive forces are firmly behind their elected leadership and have closed ranks even in the face of insults and defamation of the characters of their leaders by those who resent the MSF\'s anti elections posture”, he said.
The MSF Chairperson maintained that, those all those who seek a democratic Swaziland must unite under the banner of the MSF.
“We are unconvinced that those who participate in Tinkhundla activities like Sibaya and Tinkhundla elections are true Revolutionaries as they have positioned themselves outside of the MDM framework and mainstream progressive politics. This notwithstanding we will continue to engage every one with the aim to win them to our point of view and to help everyone understand that Tinkhundla system cannot be overthrown using its own institutions. The Swazi constitution was rigged to make this impossible”, said the MSF Chairperson.
The MSF is an umbrella organization for pro-democracy groups in eSwatini, the organization was previously led by the late human rights lawyer Thulani Maseko who was assassinated at the peak of the political unrest, allegedly, by Mswati’s mercenaries.
