MBABANE:King Mswati might soon announce members of the remaining eMabandla(Governing Councils) including the Judicial Service Commission(JSC).
Other pending appointments include Regional Administrators, the Boarder Restoration Commitee(BRC) and the Elections and Boundaries Commission(EBC).
The King is also expected to announce the replacement of the late Senator Chief Prince Gcokoma and Land Management Board Chairperson Thandi Maziya.
Reached for comments by this Swaziland News on Thursday morning, King Mswati’s Spokesperson Percy Simelane said, the King hardly perform official duties while in seclusion.
“We are not aware.Normally when the King is in seclusion he does not perform official duties”, said the King’s Spokesperson.
But royal insiders very close to Mswati told this journalist that, the King might hand over the list to Attorney General(AG) Sifiso Khumalo who will then announce the appointments.
“Announcing the appointments while in seclusion works to his advantage because he doesn’t want people who were expecting appointments to flood the Palace batomkhalela. If you can analyze previous appointments, this is normally done while he is away on international trips, the King has too many loyalists who are expecting favours from him. Another thing, the looming appointments including the announcement of the JSC, are very critical hence the delay. If Chief Justice Bheki Maphalala does not appear in that list as the Chairman of the Judicial Service Commission, that would mean the country will have a new Chief Justice because constitutionally, the Chief Justice is the Chairman of the JSC. So the delay was caused by, among others, the issue of the CJ as the King has been analyzing the situation so he can decide whether to remove him or not. But, it’s a wait and see situation, he might announce the appointments and if he delays, that would mean the judiciary will remain without a JSC for much longer”, said the royal insider.
On another note, the Shiselweni Region has been without a Regional Administrator(RA) for more than a year now.
