KWALUSENI:Brian Sangweni, the Spokesperson of Eswatini’s main and largest political party, the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO) has called for more support as University of Eswatini workers protest, amid financial challenges within the institution of higher learning.

PUDEMO joined the workers in the protests even on Thursday.

Lawyer Sibusiso Nhlabatsi, the Chairperson of the Association of Lecturers Academic and Administration Personnel(ALAAP) told this Swaziland News earlier on Wednesday that, outstanding Medical Aid payment “is among the issues that need urgent attention” within the University of Eswatini(UNESWA).

“The University is also owing over R166million in unpaid Pension Fund monies excluding water and electricity bills. But the most urgent issue is that of the Medical Aid because what was happening here, the University was deducting the monies without remitting to the service provider. This resulted to the Medical Aid companies terminating their services,” said the Chairperson of the Association of Lecturers Academic and Administration Personnel when speaking to editor Zweli Martin Dlamini.

Efforts to seek a comment from Vice Chancellor Professor Justice Tfwala proved unsuccessful at the time of compiling this report.

On another note, the University of Eswatini was closed after the Eswatini Water Services Corporation terminated water supply for outstanding payments, this resulted to the institution of higher learning suspending operations.
