MBABANE: Zanele Ndzinisa, the National Coordinator of the Swaziland Massacre Victims and Survivors Association(SWAVISA) has, on behalf of the organization, released a statement rejecting the proposed electricity tariff hikes by the Eswatini Electricity Company(EEC).
Consumers will pay one hundred Rands(R100.00) for mere thirty(30) units as the Eswatini Electricity Company(EEC) seeks twenty-five percent(25%) increase.
This comes a few days after Parliament increased water tariffs, the country is also facing shortage of drugs in public hospitals and, scarcity of scholarships among other socio-economic challenges.
The electricity tariffs increase might be debated and approved by Parliament.
“The Swaziland Massacre Victims and Survivors Association (SWAVISA), an organization representing the most vulnerable segment of Swazi society, expresses its profound shock and disappointment regarding the proposed 25.51% and 27.06% electricity tariff hikes for 2025/26 and 2026/27, respectively, by the Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC).This proposed increase is not only exorbitant but also completely out of touch with the socio-economic realities of our nation. It is a disgrace that many emaSwati still cannot afford electricity in their homes, particularly in rural areas. Were it not for the decentralized Tinkhundla Electricity schemes, countless households would remain in darkness”, reads the statement in part released by the SWAVISA National Coordinator.

Political unrest Victims and Survivors Association rejects 25% electricity tariff hikes, says poor emaSwati most affected.
