SALARIES DELAY AMID FINANCIAL CRISIS:University of Eswatini(UNESWA) Lecturers write to Management, will not report for duty if ‘in-contact’ is not received by midnight.

Tuesday, 19th November, 2024

KWALUSENI:Dr Mduduzi Shongwe, the Secretary General of the Association of Lecturers, Academic and Administrative Personnel(ALAAP) has written a memo to Richard Masuku, the Acting Registrar of the University of Eswatini(UNESWA) informing the Management that, all Lecturers and other workers affiliated to the union, will not report for duty on Wednesday if salaries are not paid by 11:59pm on Tuesday(19th November 2024).

This comes after the institution of higher learning wrote to the Lecturers and other staff, informing them that, their salaries will be delayed again.

“This is to inform Management that, should salaries not be in ALAAP members’ bank accounts by 11:59p.m on 19 November 2024, which would be a blatant violation of the 2018 Terms of Conditions of Service, it will be impossible for ALAAP members to come to work from the morning of the 20th November 2024 onwards, until they have received their November 2024 salaries”, reads the memo in part.

Efforts to react Richard Masuku, the UNESWA Acting Registrar, proved unsuccessful at the time of compiling this report.

Reached for comments by this Swaziland News, the ALAAP Secretary General confirmed that, Lecturers will not report for duty if the salaries “are not paid by midnight” on Tuesday.

“It’s true that, we wrote to the Acting Registrar informing the employer that we will not report for duty from Wednesday(20th November 2024) onwards until the salaries are paid. We are facing financial challenges here and, there’s nothing we can do if the salaries are delayed, we can’t work. Members took a resolution empowering us as the Executive, to write and inform the Management that, they won’t report for duty if salaries are not paid”, said the Secretary General.
