MATSAPHA:Directors of a textile company here at Wise & Presidents Garments-Matsapha are allegedly forcing employees to work overtime without any payment.
A payslip seen by this Swaziland News suggests that,the company pays the normal rate even for overtime.
The payslip reveals that the worker worked the ninety(90) hours for the forth-night however, she was paid the normal hourly rate even for the extra overtime hours.
“As you can see in the payslip, we are not paid overtime. We are also not allowed to have union representation”, said one of the workers in a conversation with editor Zweli Martin Dlamini.
Reached for comments on Wednesday, Wander Mkhonza, the Secretary General of the Amalgamated Trade Union of Swaziland(ATUSWA) urged the workers to demonstrate willingness to be represented.
“We have made attempts to represent them and they must also demonstrate willingness to be represented. If an employer is refusing to allow representation, that does not mean you cannot be represented by a union, you must demonstrate willingness to be represented”, said the ATUSWA Secretary General.
Responding to this Swaziland News,Sabelo Mkhatjwa,the Wise & Presidents Garments Manager denied these allegations, he urged those whose overtime was not paid to approach his office.
“We pay our employees overtime but if you are saying there’s a payslip reflecting that, some were not paid, they are free to approach my office so we can correct the mistake and pay”, said the Manager.
