MBABANE:Prince Mvilawemphi,the Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of the Eswatini Communications Commission(ESCCOM) has confirmed the existence of a law that comes with a fine amounting to three hundred thousand Rands(R300,000.00) for those who “touch or spy on their love partner’s cellphones”.
Responding to this Swaziland News on Sunday when asked to clarify the existence of the law, the Prince said spying on your love partner’s cellphone has been criminalized in the country in terms of the Cyber Security Act of 2022.
But the Chief Executive Officer clarified that, the R300,000.00 “is a maximum fine” adding that, a lenient Judge could impose a lesser fine of five thousand Rands(R5000.00).
“Yes,there is.It’s covered under illegal access to a computer system in the Cybersecurity Act of 2022.The 300k fine is the maximum, depending on the gravity of the case.A lenient Judge may impose a 5k fine”, said the Eswatini Communications Commission CEO.
