MBABANE:Gift Mandlenkhosi Dlamini, an alleged eSwatini Government State agent has attacked editor Zweli Martin Dlamini for reporting about his re-location to Ireland.
Dlamini is a senior member of the Swaziland Liberation Movement(SWALIMO), a political organization that attacks independent journalists for reporting about issues of public interest, Ireland respects the role of journalists and “has documented rules on how asylum seekers should handle issues with the media”.
The alleged State agent labelled editor Zweli Martin Dlamini a ‘dog’ merely for reporting that, he fled to Ireland amid an investigation into the death of ex-warder Bheka Magagula.
Gift Dlamini took to social media and positioned himself as a key witness in the alleged murder.
But after the South African police launched an investigation into the murder, Gift Dlamini fled to Ireland at time when the police are investigating the matter.
But apart from the issue of Bheka Magagula, a female former SWALIMO member alleges that, she was allegedly raped by Gift Mandlenkhosi Dlamini.
Audio recordings in possession of this Swaziland News suggests that, the matter was even reported to SWALIMO President Mduduzi Magawugawu Simelane however, the woman was threatened and told not to report the matter to the police as it might tarnish the name of the political organization.
The alleged victim has since approached human rights defenders who are assisting her to heal and take the legal route for justice in the matter.
It remains unclear if the alleged rape allegations forms part of the reasons why Gift Mandlenkhosi Dlamini fled to Ireland claiming his life “is in danger”.
In the recordings, the former SWALIMO member alleges that, she was raped at Mpumalanga during a SWALIMO gathering for leaders of the organization.
Dlamini declined to address the issue why he fled to Ireland but instead, took to social media to attack editor Zweli Martin Dlamini.
Worth-noting, Ireland has certain rules for asylum seekers when it comes to issues of handling the media.
On another note, Ireland asylum seekers rules suggest that, a person who might be linked to alleged criminal activities outside politics, might have his/her application rejected and deported back to his home country.
On another note, editor Zweli Martin Dlamini said through his international network of journalists, he will get hold of Ireland journalists to dig deeper why Gift Dlamini fled to Ireland.
“A person who claims to be fighting for democracy is fully aware that journalists report news. If you insult a journalist for reporting instead of clarifying the issue, that means you are hiding something and trying to intimidate that journalist from reporting news and we have more reasons to dig deeper”, said the editor.
