MBABANE:Moses Vilakati,the former eSwatini Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives has been elected as the new African Union(AU) Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment(ARBE).
The election of the former Minister was officially announced by Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo through a press statement released on Wednesday.
“The Government of the Kingdom of Eswatini extends its heartfelt appreciation to the 36 African Nations that saw Mr Vilakati worthy of this role,” reads the statement in part.
The election victory of the former Agriculture Minister comes after vigorous lobbying within the African continent, the lobbying was led by Labour Minister Phila Buthelezi.
