WORLD BANK REPORT:Eswatini Revenue Service(ERS) to strengthen voluntary tax compliance educational programs, Director of Communications Ntobeko Dlamini says “enforcement last resort”.

MBABANE:Ntobeko Dlamini, the Eswatini Revenue Service(ERS) Director of Marketing and Communications says, the revenue institution will strengthen its voluntary tax compliance educational programs adding that, “enforcement is always the last resort”.

Dlamini was responding to this Swaziland News when asked to clarify, what the revenue institution was doing to implement the recommendations of the World Bank Public Finance Review Report that urged eSwatini to improve domestic revenue collection.

“ERS launched a comprehensive taxpayer education program around the country covering compliance obligations as well as how to use the new system, TaxEase.In 2024 our training expanded into social media and virtual platforms, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive,” she said.

The ERS Director Marketing and Communications said apart from that, “the revenue institution is accelerating the digital transformation to streamline compliance processes” that include the deployment of customs scanners at border posts to minimize non-declaration of goods as well as to improve trade facilitation.

She said, the institution introduced a technology system which directly collect transactional data from retailers tills, ensuring accurate reporting of sales and tax obligations.

“Delivering service excellence across all ERS touch-points remains a top priority.Client satisfaction will continue to be monitored using the Net Promoter Score(NPS) to ensure efficient and responsible service delivery,” she said.
