MATSAPHA:Customers demanded to see Managers at Pick and Pay-Mahhala situated in the densely populated Matsapha town after the retail company increased maize-meal.

The maize-meal was increased from one hundred and twenty-nine Rands, ninety-nine cents(R129.99) to one hundred and ninety-four Rands, ninety-nine cents(R194.99) shortly after Finance Minister Neal Rijikernberg indicated that, eSwatini will increase Value Added Tax(VAT) as well.

Worth-noting, maize meal is exempted from VAT and it remains unclear what influenced Pick and Pay to increase the maize meal with more than fifty percent(50%).

“This maize meal was R129.99 yesterday(12th March 2025 and today(13th March 2025) it’s R194.99, when we ask the Managers batsi kungetulu kwemandla abo,” said one of the aggrieved customers.

But when this Swaziland News contacted the Management, a Manager said the price was increased by the Head Office.

“We engaged the customer and the matter is being handled by the Head Office, so the price might be reduced,” he said when speaking to editor Zweli Martin Dlamini.
