MBABANE:Peter ‘Samora’ Simelane, the suspended SwaziMed Chief Executive Officer(CEO) allegedly used the construction of the Ezulwini Private Hospital as a conduit to loot millions of public funds thus, depriving emaSwati with Medical Aid access to quality healthcare as the medical scheme subsequently struggled to pay private hospitals including doctors.

Documentary evidence obtained amid an ongoing high level investigation conducted by this Swaziland News into the affairs of the country’s largest medical scheme suggests that, the suspended CEO allegedly started masterminding the looting before the construction of the Ezulwini Private Hospital, he subsequently purchased mere two(2) hectors of land with over R33million.

The CEO further purchased extra land with over R2million saying this was meant to expand the Ezulwini Private Hospital and as a result, the amount escalated to over R35million.

But the controversial “purchasing of the land is also cited in the Medical Scheme’s Audit or Financial Reports and, it is alleged that, Simelane colluded with the seller in inflating the property value so that, he can cash some millions on the sidelines”.

The CEO declined to comment when questioned by this Swaziland News about the alleged corruption within SwaziMed but, has been releasing endless press statements trying to explain to the members amid corruption scandals and/or looting within SwaziMed.

Worth-noting and, in the press statements, the CEO did not clarify the alleged rampant looting within SwaziMed but instead, he assured members that, the “medical scheme is financially stable while evading accountability when questioned by the Governing Board”.

On another note, the Board released a press statement on Thursday clarifying that, Principal Officer Peter ‘Samora’ Simelane remains suspended by the Governing Board as communicated on 20th March 2025.

“His actions in continuing to present himself as the Principal Officer of the Fund are in direct violation of the conditions of his suspension,” reads the statement in part, sent to this Swaziland News.

But despite the allegations of corruption, the CEO has been attempting to evade accountability of the public funds while abusing his proximity with Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini, his Deputy Thulisile Dladla and other alleged corrupt individuals within the corridors of power, to intimidate and prevent the Board from demanding accountability of the public funds.

As a result, State police officers were unleashed to try and intimidate, stop the Board from addressing a Press Conference, announcing the suspension of the Principal Officer amid allegations of corruption.

The Board eventually suspended the CEO and went on to remove Chairman Sammy Dlamini for allegedly incubating corruption within SwaziMed.
