MBABANE: Makhosi Vilakati, the Minister of Labour and Social Security has died due to a COVID-19 related illness, Cabinet sources confirmed this publication.
The death of the Minister comes few hours after Themba Masuku, the Acting Prime Minister released a statement informing the Nation that the Minister, a Member of Parliament(MP) for LaMgabhi Inkhundla was transferred to a South African, he reportedly died upon arrival at the hospital at around 2100hours on Saturday according to sources within the health institution in South Africa.
Reached for comments, Petros Mavimbela, the Speaker in the House of Assembly said the death has not yet reported to him.
“I haven’t received an official report about his death” said the Speaker.
But this publication gathered that the death of the Minister was reported to Speaker Petros Mavimbela at around 2200 hours, he then made few calls informing other MPs at around 2230 hrs.
Efforts to reach the late Labour Minister\'s wife for a comment proved unsuccessful at the time of compiling this report.
A Cabinet Minister who spoke to this publication confirmed the death of the Labour Minister adding that they will hold a meeting tomorrow to discuss further.
“It’s true, tomorrow we will hold a meeting to discuss further details” said the Minister who cannot be named for ethical reasons.
