King Mswati receives letters of credence, welcomes new United Kingdom(UK) and EU Ambassadors.

LOZITHA:King Mswati received letters of credence from His Excellency Colin Wells, the new Ambassador of the United Kingdom(UK) to eSwatini.

The King further welcomed His Excellency Karsten Mecklenburg, the new European Union(EU) Ambassador to eSwatini in an event that took place at Lozitha Palace on Thursday.

As reported by Government online platforms,the King reiterated the Kingdom of Eswatini’s commitment to maintaining the healthy relations that exist between the Kingdom and the UK and EU respectively.

The King further appreciated the support extended to Eswatini by the UK and the EU, he then emphasized the importance of dialogue to resolve conflicts.

On another note, Ambassador Wells said,the relationship between Eswatini and the UK has been maintained and did not end in 1968 when then Swaziland celebrated full independence under King Sobhuza.

“Instead, it matured immediately into one between two equal nations with special shared legacies of a common language, principles, ethics and values, and the importance of our communities and of our families. Many emaSwati study in the UK. Each year, our Chevening Scholarship Scheme fully funds Masters courses for talented young emaSwati in British Universities.Your Majesty is yourself a beneficiary of your time studying in the UK.Indeed, Sir, you and I have a shared affinity for the beautiful south-west of England where we both studied at the same time, in schools only a few miles apart,” he said.

On the other hand, EU Ambassador the support in Free Primary Education(FPE), infrastructure development and social development demonstrates the EU’s commitment in supporting the Kingdom of eSwatini.

“For over 50 years, the EU and Eswatini have enjoyed a strong and long-lasting partnership. This partnership has evolved over the years to keep addressing the most pressing issues in the development journey of this beautiful Kingdom. Our investments in free primary education, agriculture, infrastructure development, social protection, green energy, to mention a few, are a testament to our unwavering commitment to the Kingdom of Eswatini’s prosperity and growth,” said the new EU Ambassador.
