MBABANE:China is slowly imposing strict travel restrictions on emaSwati seeking to travel for business amid tension allegedly triggered by the eSwatini’s diplomatic relations with Taiwan which undermines the United Nations(UN) Resolution 2758 of 1971.
The UN recognized and adopted a “One China” policy suggesting that Taiwan is and remains part of China but, eSwatini refused to respect the said resolution and maintained diplomatic ties with the Chinese island.
Lin Songtian, the then Chinese Ambassador to South Africa previously told this Swaziland News that, China will eventually impose trade and/or travel restrictions against eSwatini if the country continues to undermine the UN Resolution.
Emails seen by this publication suggest that, over thirty(30) eSwatini citizens visa applications were recently rejected by the Chinese Embassy-South Africa in the past two(2) months and this means, some emaSwati who were hoping to travel for business, have been denied entry to China.
