MBABANE: Qhawe Mamba, the Director of Channel Swazi has urged journalists to focus more on stories that impact the people.
Speaking to this Swaziland News in an exclusive interview, Mamba said his television station became popular because it focused on issues that impact the people adding that citizens were always happy to see their issues discussed and addressed by the media.
“We focus more on stories that impact the people that’s why we have a huge viewership” said the Channel S Director.
Mamba urged aspiring journalists to join the media industry driven by passion for the job not money. He said most journalists he trained who later became successful were those who demonstrated passion for the job and willingness to learn. The Channel S Director said unfortunately, he was getting old with no energy to train many journalists.
“I trained many journalists some of them are working overseas now. Those who were lucky to become successful demonstrated willingness to learn from the first day and it was easy to work with them. I think we need to engage the Universities so we can see how we can train the journalists practically because there’s a huge difference between theory and practicals” said the Channel S Director.
