KaNGCAMPHALALA: Gogo Thembi Ndlovu of KaNgcamphalala area in the Lubombo region is appealing for justice from women rights organisations after being assaulted by a group of men in the area who demanded to be included as beneficiaries in a women dominated sugar-cane project.
Speaking to this Swaziland News, Ndlovu said while attending a meeting for members of the sugar-cane scheme, one man and his two sons who had earlier refused to be part of the project when it was established, later emerged and demanded to be included as a beneficiaries.
“When I asked them why they wanted to be part of the scheme without following the Constitution of our organisation, they strangled and assaulted me. Police came and a formal criminal case was opened, however, the matter never went to court, police are now giving me one excuse after another. I am appealing to women’s rights organisations for justice because I’m being assaulted just because I’m a woman” she said.
Reached for comments, Nonhlanhla Dlamini, the Director of the Swaziland Action Group Against Abuse(SWAGAA) condemned the assault of the elderly woman, she advised her to escalate the matter with relevant authorities of the Big-Bend police Station, alternatively visit SWAGAA offices for appropriate counselling and advise.
“She must report this to the relevant authorities within that police station, everyone in the country reports to superiors. Alternatively, she can visit our offices for assistance, it is very unfortunate that men can abuse a woman just because they want to be beneficiaries of an organisation they never established” said the SWAGGA Director.
