MBABANE:George Brown,the General Manager of United Plantations Swaziland Limited(Ngonini Estate), has dismissed over twenty(20) workers merely for demanding toilet papers and their two thousand Rands(R2000.00) annual school fees financial assistance that was offered as a benefit.
The General Manager allegedly subjected the workers to a disciplinary hearing saying they threatened him by demanding their money.
“The Presiding officer of your hearing which took place on the 05 May 2025, after hearing and reviewing the evidence presented, in his findings dated 25 May 2025, delivered a guilty verdict for the charge and subsequently recommended as follows; threats-summary dismissal,” reads the letter in part and, from the General Manager.
Reached for comments, the Ngonini Estate General Manager said he can’t comment about the dismissals at this juncture.
“I’ve got no comment at this stage,” he said.
On another note, the employees told this publication that, the employer took advantage of the challenges and infighting within their Swaziland Agricultural Plantations Workers Union(SAPWU) and withdrew all the benefits negotiated by the union on their behalf.
