MBABANE: Sibongile Mazibuko, the President of the Ngwane National Liberatory Congress(NNLC) has warned women to value their bodies and refrain from sleeping with men as insurance for powerful positions.

Speaking during a special program on Swaziland News audio channel as part of the One Billion Rising Campaign to discourage Gender Based Violence(GBV) on Valentines Day, Mazibuko said women must value themselves and avoid surrendering their bodies to men for favours. She said the value of a woman remains very high adding that women should always make sure that men struggle to get their bodies.

“Kufana nemuntfu akubhaze bese wena uyashaya, akusome nge-airtime yakho(meaning: it’s like these men who buzz women and expect them to call so they can propose love to them, that is wrong). It reduces the value of that woman because it is the man that should struggle to get the woman. Furthermore, women should not be proud of dating prominent men, it is the man that should be proud of you because of your value” ,said the NNLC President.

Mazibuko said a woman who lacks a self-esteem will always feel like dating a powerful man to protect her job. The NNLC President said women should get jobs based on competency not by sleeping with powerful men.

“A woman whose pride comes from dating powerful men becomes a problem,even if she can hold a high position like that of being a Minister, she might date someone within that Cabinet” ,said the NNLC President.
