MBABANE:King Mswati’s Spokesperson Percy Simelane has warned Zwelinzima Vavi, the Secretary General of the South African Federation of Trade Unions(SAFTU) against threatening that, the King risk being overthrown for refusing to engage in a political dialogue with the pro-democracy movement.
Reacting to an article published by this Swaziland News, quoting Vavi who was a Guest Speaker during the June 29 Massacre Commemoration held in Soweto-South Africa on Saturday, the Spokesperson said, “King Mswati is constitutionally in office” and cannot be intimidated by ‘political rejects’.
The South African unionist advised King Mswati to engage in a dialogue with the pro-democracy movement or risk being overthrown.
“Zwelinzima Vavi is completely out of order. Eswatini has a constitution to adhere to and has no date with South African political rejects masquerading as democracy gods. Our constitution speaks of Sibaya(People’s Parliament) and not improtu dialogues suggested by socialite from neighboring States. Sibaya is the biggest decision making body when it comes to political dispensation in particular. The King is in power constitutionally and Vavi should know that the right to overturn a country’s constitution does not exist and that democracy is not about neighboring political bullies speaking from above to neighboring g nations but about a people freely defining their destiny. Let’s see him coming to Eswatini to do a pre-test of the overthrowing of the King he is talking about. Chances are, upon arrival, he will know what makes bananas yellow. This is not a threat but a promise and we will keep it,” said the King’s Spokesperson.
