MBABANE:Sifiso Khumalo, the Attorney General(AG) came hard on Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini for allowing the United States(US) to dump dangerous in eSwatini.
The Principal Government Legal Advisor went on to question Acting Government Spokesperson Thabile Mdluli why she issued a Government statement clarifying the issue without proper consultation.
This was during the serious disagreement that erupted in the Cabinet Whatsap group on Wednesday afternoon, Ministers were questioning the PM why he facilitated the deportations without consulting Cabinet.
But the AG reacted in the matter that triggered public outcry after the PM told Cabinet Ministers that, the deportation of the criminals was secretly facilitated by him adding that, he didn’t inform Cabinet because “Ministers were going to leak the information” to Swaziland News editor Zweli Martin Dlamini.
But the AG did not not take kindly to the explanation and as the disagreement escalated in the Whatsap group, a formal meeting was subsequently held where the Prime Minister told Cabinet Ministers that an agreement was signed with the United States before the deportation.
“All agreements, treaties, conventions or documents by whatever name called can not be concluded without the Attorney General in terms of Section 77 of the Constitution”, the Attorney General wrote in the Cabinet Whatsap Group communication leaked to editor Zweli Martin Dlamini.
But the Prime Minister subsequently addressed a press conference where he confirmed that, the dangerous criminals were in the country.
“We would like to confirm that, we have these five(5) criminals in the country’s prisons but we are engaging their respective countries, they will be repatriated”, said the Prime Minister who used the siSwati phrase “tivakashi teNkhosi” when referring to the dangerous criminals.
The criminals were dumped in eSwatini by the United States in the early hours on Wednesday, they were previously convicted of child rape, murder and robbery in Yemen, Cuba, Laos, Jamaica and Vietnam.
