MBABANE:Ndumiso Dlamini, the Lobamba Police Officer who committed suicide by shooting and killing himself this week, was facing a R2million lawsuit after assaulting Thembinkhosi Nhlengetfwa in front of his wife.
According to documents, Nhlengetfwa instructed Dunseth Attorneys to sue Dlamini and all the officers who assaulted him, however, the deceased cop is alleged to have been at the centre of the abuse that resulted to the lawsuit.
The assault was widely reported by this Swaziland News and an audio was shared online where the members of the law enforcement officers were assaulting and insulting Nhlengetfwa.
National Commissioner Vusi Masango is alleged to have ordered that action must be taken against the officers particularly Dlamini, for behaving in a manner that attracted a lawsuit against the Police Service.
According to the documents seen by this publication, Government might be forced to negotiate an out-of-court settlement and pay Nhlengetfwa a reasonable amount of money as the matter appears to be indefensible particularly because, the police allegedly assaulted Nhlengetfwa after being accused of cheating by his wife which his lawyers claim, is purely personal and outside the mandate of the police or criminal justice system.
Reached for comments, Thembinkhosi Nhlengetfwa referred comments to his lawyers while Police Spokesperson Senior Superintendent Phindile Vilakati declined to comment.
On another note, the deceased police officer was allegedly facing financial challenges and, the lawsuit is alleged to have worsen his situation or frustration after being told that, the money might be deducted from his salary.
Dlamini was allegedly questioned by his superiors after Nhlengetfwa’s lawyers served the Police Service or Government with the R2million “letter of demand”, through the Office of the Attorney General.
Thembinkhosi Nhlengetfwa is suing the police R2million for assault.
