MBABANE:The Anti Corruption Commission(ACC) has filed a fresh warrant of arrest application against SwaziPharm Director Kareem Ashraff, the multibillion alleged thief who stands accused of stealing public funds resulting in the shortage of drugs in public hospitals.
The first attempt to arrest Ashraff was blocked by his alleged close friend Chief Justice Bheki Maphalala however, international partners funding the health system, are allegedly demanding justice in the matter.
But the new warrant or arrest application might be heard by another Judge as Chief Justice Bheki Maphalala’s conflict of interest, has been exposed by this publication.
The CJ has been Ashraff’s close friend for over thirty(30) years and his own daughter Pholile Maphalala is also linked to the shortage of drugs scandal, Pholile Maphalala was suspended by the Ministry of Health pending further investigations.
But despite the conflict of interest, the Chief Justice allegedly violated the judicial code of conduct, presided over the matter and subsequently dismissed the warrants of arrest against Ashraff and two(2) others.
The ACC together with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions(DPP) filed a fresh application to be heard this week.
