MBABANE:Jabulile Mashwama, the Managing Director of the Eswatini Water Services Corporation(EWSC) held an urgent meeting this week with other senior Managers to discuss among others, financial challenges facing the company.
The financial challenges comes less that two(2) years after Mashwama retrenched some workers and went on to employ new senior Managers some who earn over one hundred thousand Rands(R100,000.00) per-month.
It is alleged that, some of the senior Managers were previously working with Jabulile bMashwama at the Coca-Cola Eswatini(CONCO Limited) while some are members of her church-the Jesus Calls Workship Centre(JCWC).
The Managing Director is earning over two hundred thousand Rands(R200,000.00) per-month including allowances, Mashwama is King Mswati’s mother-in-law.
But on or around 24th May 2025, this publication reported that, Managing Director Mashwama conducted restructuring within the State owned company and as a result, some Managers were promoted including the then Public Relations Officer(PRO) Nomahlubi Matiwane “who is now Director-Business Enablement and Corporate Affairs”, salaries were subsequently increased for the senior Managers.
Now, it has been disclosed that, the company is facing unpaid bills worth millions as more poor emaSwati struggle to afford the expensive water provided by the State owned company.
Efforts to seek a comment from Nomahlubi Matiwane, the Water Services Corporate Affairs Manager proved unsuccessful at the time of compiling this report.
Responding this Swaziland News on the subject matter, Colani Hlatjwako, the One Billion Rising Coordinator said “poor women are affected by the expensive water” supplied by the Eswatini Water Services Corporation.
“As you know water is a very important resource for women, by the nature of our bodies we take a bath more often and, we are expected to cook for the family. So with the expensive water, women are the most affected. We are surprised to learn that the Water Services wants to increase water again,” said the Coordinator of the women rights organization.
