Tuesday, 9th September, 2025

MBABANE:Misiwe Jele-Hlatjwako, the Assistant Immigration Officer in the Ministry of Home Affairs has filed an application challenging the appointment of Maphevu Mkhatjwa as the Acting Commissioner of the Anti Corruption Commission(ACC).

Misiwe Jele, the wife to Reverend Senzo Hlatjwako, was arrested by the ACC for allegedly issuing permits to foreigners through alleged corrupt means.

But the Assistant Immigration Officer is now challenging the arrest including the legitimacy of the ACC investigation team led by Mkhatjwa whose appointment as Acting ACC Commissioner was allegedly unlawfully extended.

In her court papers, Jele argued that Maphevu Mkhatjwa’s term as Acting Commissioner expired on 21 June 2024, he was appointed by Justice Minister Prince Simelane on 21st December 2023 to act as the ACC Commissioner for six(6) months and the appointment according to Jele, was unlawfully extended.

The Assistant Immigration Officer is being represented by Robinson Bertram lawyers and the matter is pending in court.
