MBABANE: Welcome Mdluli, the newly elected President of the Swaziland Democratic Nurses Union(SWADNU)has warned Government against further relaxation of the partial lockdown as the COVID-19 third wave intensifies in India claiming over 3000 lives per-day.
Speaking to this Swaziland News, the Nurses Union President said they were aware that the COVID-19 situation has reached an alarming stage in India, however, he expressed concerns that some citizens in Eswatini were more relaxed, even hosting events where safety measures are disregarded.
“It’s unfortunate that India, a country that assisted us with vaccines is now facing challenges with the pandemic, but we need to understand that a vaccine cannot entirely eradicate the virus. Even though we might not have the privilege to information on what happened in India that landed them to this situation, but what we know is that even if you get vaccinated you must continue adopting safety measures like social distancing, wearing of masks and sanitising ” ,he said.
The Nurses President urged Government and Town Councils to provide equipment and resources like water to enable citizens to wash their hands to prevent the spread of the virus. He further reminded the Nation that COVID-19 was not over hence everyone must adopt safety measures.The President then thanked Nurses for entrusting him with the huge task of leading their organisation and promised to work with integrity.
