MBABANE: The Economic Freedom Fighters(EFF) has called upon the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO) and EEF Swaziland to unite and intensify the demand for democratic reforms in eSwatini.
This comes in the midst of political unrest in the Kingdom after King Mswati unleashed soldiers and the police to shot and kill civilians merely for demanding democratic reforms.
In a public statement, Vuyani Pambo, the EFF Spokesperson said only the masses can break themselves free from the chain of oppression adding that the police and the army stand to gain from the ongoing revolution hence they must join the people and overthrow the King.
“Only the masses can break themselves free from the chain of oppression. The police and army of the King have everything to gain from this popular revolution and accordingly, they have a responsibility to join the people’s front in the street battles to overthrow the arrogant traditional leader who is self-serving in the midst of a pandemic and poverty” said the EFF Spokesperson in a statement.
On another note, the South African Government has called upon political actors to engage in dialogue and end the ongoing political crisis in eSwatini.
Eswatini, a tiny Kingdom situated in Southern Africa has about 70% of the population living below the poverty line, political parties are banned from participating in elections, the King appoints the Prime Minister, Ministers, a majority of Senators and all members of the various Governing Councils.
Meanwhile, King Mswati’s soldiers continue to shot and kill protesting civilians in the rural and urban areas, in the last 48hours, Mlungisi Makhanya, the President of the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO) confirmed that over 40 people have been killed, 150 treated for gun shots injuries and hundreds missing.
But Senator Themba Masuku, the Acting Prime Minister when speaking to NewsRoom Afrika denied that there were Swazis who were killed by security forces.
