MBABANE: Mthandeni Dube, the Ngwempisi Member of Parliament(MP) said as the killing of civilians by soldiers and the police continues, they would consider facilitating military training for the youth for defense purposes.
This comes after the police shot and killed two Lomahasha residents during a funeral on Sunday for rebuking King Mswati. According to the banned political parties and human rights organizations, dozens have been killed since the political crisis erupted in June.
Speaking during a press conference on Tuesday, the MP said it was clear that Government was eager to continue killing the people hence Swazis must be prepared to defend themselves.
“We need to send our youth for military training so that they can protect themselves and their parents from the ongoing violence by soldiers and the police. We won’t take all the youth for the training at the same time but we will try to make sure the first batch go for the military training so that they can come back and defend those Swazis who can’t defend themselves”, said the Ngwempisi MP.
The political chaos erupted after King Mswati through the then Acting Prime Minister Themba Masuku banned the delivery of petitions as citizens intensified the calls for democratic reforms. The King subsequently unleashed soldiers and the police to shoot and kill dozens of civilians who were protesting in various parts of the country.
Addressing the Nation on Friday, the King denied unleashing soldiers to kill civilians saying the protestors killed each other.
