MBABANE: Marwick Khumalo, the Lobamba Lomdzala Member of Parliament(MP) has warned the Speaker in the House of Assembly Petros Mavimbela saying more pro-democracy motions were coming.
Speaking to this Swaziland News during an exclusive interview, Khumalo said as Members of Parliament(MPs) they were being insulted by the people who wanted to know what they were doing after delivering their petitions calling for democratic reforms.
“People are now complaining that we go to Parliament but we are not addressing their grievances and sufferings. Kungako bantfu lulwini lwabo lubese luyashuba uma bakhuluma ngemalunga ePhalamende. That’s why we resolved that these petitions must be discussed in Parliament in form of a motion”, he said.
Khumalo then warned the Speaker against blocking such motions, he reminded him that the MPs were elected by the people.
On Thursday 30th September 2021, Speaker Petros Mavimbela blocked a pro-democracy motion from being debated in Parliament. The motion was to be moved by MP Marwick Khumalo and seconded by Nkilongo MP Timothy Myeni. The Speaker said he needed time to analyse the motion and apply his mind first, this triggered tension within the House.
