MBABANE: Victor Nxumalo, the Secretary to Cabinet says they will tighten the security of Cabinet information after leaked WhatsApp messages where Cabinet Ministers resolved to shut down the internet.
This comes after this Swaziland News exposed how Cabinet ordered Princess Sikhanyiso to switch-off the internet ahead of the then Member of Parliament(MP) Magawugawu’s Swaziland Liberation Movement(SWALIMO) official launch on Friday.
“WhatsApp is not an official medium for corresponding Cabinet decisions, therefore the contents of the discussions can neither be regarded as a Cabinet policy decision nor Government's position. The Ministers were just joking amongst themselves in their WhatsApp group and they were not in a Cabinet meeting. We are, however, not taking lightly the matter of the information leakage and we are doing everything to tighten the security of Cabinet's information”, read the statement in part.
Foreign Affairs Minister Thulie Dladla and Mancoba Khumalo suggested that the internet must be shut down in complete violation of the Constitutional right to information, freedom of association and assembly, among others. The government normally shuts down the internet to intensify the shooting and killing of civilians while sabotaging the flow of information to the international community.
