MBABANE: Ngomyayona Gamedze, the former Senate Deputy President says he will not participate in the Siphofaneni by-elections but would only stand for elections as a candidate of his political party, Sive Siyinqaba.
Speaking to this Swaziland News in an exclusive interview on Tuesday, the Sive Siyinqaba Chairman said he cannot endorse the illegitimate elections at Siphofaneni by participating in them ahead of a political dialogue that sought to usher the country into a new democratic dispensation.
The elections at Siphofaneni come after the removal of MP Magawugawu Simelane for allegedly missing several sittings, he is wanted by the police on alleged terrorism charges.
The Times Sunday reported that some Siphofaneni residents approached Gamedze and urged him to stand for the Tinkhundla elections.
“I will not participate in the elections at Siphofaneni because I don’t understand what that thing is all about. We are waiting for a dialogue that will determine how we will conduct elections and we want to contest with our political parties”, he said.
The highly regarded and politically inclined Sive Siyinqaba Chairman said his political position regarding the current situation in the country was very clear adding that he cannot even dream of contesting elections without the involvement of political parties.
Currently, political parties in eSwatini include the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO), Sive Siyinqaba, the Ngwane National Liberatory Congress(NNLC), the Swaziland Democratic Party(SWADEPA), the Communist Party of Swaziland(CPS) and the Economic Freedom Fighters(EFF) Swaziland among others. Some of these organizations are collectively working together to usher the country into a new democratic dispensation under an umbrella body known as the Poltical Parties Assembly(PPA).
