PUDEMO PRESIDENT: Royalty must remove Mswati, appoint another King to preserve Monarchy.

Sunday, 2nd January, 2022

MBABANE: Mlungisi Makhanya, the President of the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO)says if Swazis through their various political organizations decide to embrace a Constitutional Monarch, then royalty must remove Mswati and appoint another King.

Speaking to this Swaziland News, the PUDEMO President did not rule out the possibility of preserving the institution of the Monarchy under a democratic government but clarified that another person appointed by the royal family must sit on the Throne.

The PUDEMO President said Mswati would have to face both local and the international justice system for the alleged killing of civilians during the ongoing political unrest.

“Even if the system of the Monarchy is retained, we will insist on that the royal family must ensure it provides us with the finest not with the worst. Mswati will have to be removed but it should not just end with the removal, he still has to account for the murders he has committed and all the atrocities against the Nation”, said the PUDEMO President.

Thabile Mdluli, the Deputy Government Spokesperson had not responded at the time of compiling this report.

King Mswati who rules eSwatini as an absolute Monarch with Executive, Judiciary and Legislative powers is facing an investigation by international human rights organizations over the alleged shooting and killing of civilians who were merely protesting, demanding democratic reforms.
