LOBAMBA: King Mswati has come out to discourage the use of force and violence to influence democratic reforms.
This comes after the King used force and violence by banning the delivery of petitions and subsequently unleashed soldiers and the police to shoot and kill dozens of civilians merely for demanding reforms.
Frustrated protestors responded by looting shops and burning properties worth millions during the June 2021 political unrest.
Speaking during the opening of Parliament, the King urged Swazis to put the country first instead of selfish interests.
“We discourage the use of force and violence to influence change as we all deserve to live in peace. It is not a crime to have diverging views but engaging in dialogue creates a better outcome for all, as every person needs advice from time to time. Let us put the country first and not push selfish-interests. Let us remain the peace loving emaSwati we are known to be”, said the King.
