Mswati deploys armed soldiers, police at UNESWA as protests within institutions of higher learning intensify.

KWALUSENI: Eswatini King has deployed soldiers and the police to shoot protesting University students as protests within various institutions of higher learning intensify.

King Mswati has been struggling to silence protesting citizens with guns since the political unrest erupted in June 2021, dozens have been by security forces acting on King’s command.

Reached for comments, Colani Maseko, the President of the Swaziland National Union of Students(SNUS) confirmed that armed soldiers and the police were deployed within the University of Eswatini(UNESWA) on Monday after students engaged in a protest action.

“It’s true that students engaged in a protest today(Monday) and the University was subsequently closed as the administration was protesting its property. Students including those at Limkokwing University were protesting demanding allowances but the regime responded by deploying armed soldiers and the police. As we speak, armed soldiers and the police are at the entrance of the University of eSwatini,” said the Students Union President.

Thabile Mdluli, the Deputy Government Spokesperson had not responded at the time of compiling this report.

Reached for comments,Dr Salebona Simelane, the University of Eswatini Registrar confirmed that the institution of higher learning has been closed.

“It’s true that the University has been closed. We haven’t taken a decision when to open but we informed the students that we will do online classes for now”, said the Registrar.
