METHULA: Derrick Masuku, the Methula Member of Parliament (MP) says it is very hard to blame the residents who burned the TLB that destroyed their homes because they were angry.
Speaking to Swaziland News on Wednesday after being asked to comment on tensions escalating within his Constituency early this morning, the MP said he was still assessing the situation to ascertain the number of people who may need humanitarian assistance.
“I don’t understand why the residents’ homes are being destroyed before engaging them. This is a very unfortunate situation and it’s hard even to blame them for burning the TLB that was destroying their home because they were angry. I am still assessing the situation to determine the number of people in need of humanitarian assistance”, said the MP.
It has been disclosed that police rushed to the Methula Constituency after being informed that the residents were burning down the TLB, believed to be owned by Mswati’s government.
A source close to the matter said young people who allegedly burned the TLB are on the Mountains in fear of the police who are looking for them.
The residents are accused of constructing their homes on a farm, more Swazis across the country were evicted by Mswati, who then allocated the land to his business allies.
Police Spokesperson Phindile Vilakati had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
On another note, Amnesty International, a human rights organization, released a series of reports condemning the eviction of Swazis from their land.
