NHLANGANO: A car belonging to Sibonelo Tsabedze, the Nhlangano Organiser of the Amalgamated Trade Union of Swaziland(ATUSWA) was burned by unknown people on Thursday morning after he led textile workers in a protest demanding better salaries.

The attack was confirmed by Wander Mkhonza, the ATUSWA Secretary General who further mentioned that the car was burnt around 1am in the morning.

“Those who are behind this barbaric act of burning the property of workers and or their leaders will not extinguish the fire that burns in worker's hearts yet the opposite is true. When they attack the leaders and or workers themselves, the inferno sweeps through our hearts and the desire to fight for what we believe in becomes embedded in our souls”, said the ATUSWA Secretary General.

Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, the Police Spokesperson had not responded at the time of compiling this report.

Textile workers in Nhlangano engaged in a strike action  demanding better salaries, however, Commerce Minister Mancoba Khumalo urged them to go back to work.
