Sunday, 8th May, 2022

MBABANE: PUDEMO, the People’s United Democratic Movement has applauded efforts by the South African law enforcement agency in handling the investigation into the murder of Hillary Gardee.

This comes after this publication reported that a suspect who happens to be a member of PUDEMO was arrested by the police and is yet to appear in court.

In a public statement released on Sunday by PUDEMO Secretary General Wandile Dludlu, the political organization said they noted with concerns the arrest of its long standing member in connection with the murder of Hillary Gardee, the daughter of former EFF Secretary-General comrade Godrich Gardee.

“PUDEMO wishes to, once more, express its message of sympathy and solidarity to the Gardee family, the EFF family and in particular comrade Godrich with whom we have a long standing relationship in the struggle for democracy in our region, particularly in Swaziland.

Furthermore, we wish to reaffirm our stance as PUDEMO in support of the struggle against gender- based violence (GBV). We remain of the firm view that this profound and widespread problem that is deeply entrenched in institutions, cultures and traditions in South Africa and thus must be confronted whenever it rears its ugly head. While PUDEMO expresses its support of the investigative work conducted by law enforcement agencies, the organisation is not privy to the details of the investigation and like everyone is awaiting further details,” reads the statement in part.

The PUDEMO Secretary General said to this end, they wished to place on record their decisive support of the police for their commendable work to bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to book.
